Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS A FOUTA?
The Fouta is a piece of thin patterned cotton or linen fabric used in many Mediterranean countries, originally made in Tunisia. Traditionally woven using a pedal wooden loom, most Foutas found in the market today are industrially made.
Destined for a life without borders, FH Tunisian Foutas are equal parts devastatingly gorgeous and maximally functional for use in life’s most technically and stylistically demanding situations. As such, they’re skillfully handwoven from deadstock natural fibers with patterns inspired by the smoldering spirit of Brazil. They fold up effortlessly, dry quickly, and are beautiful and useful seaside, poolside, and everywhere in between, like around our waists, in our carry-ons, and adorning our sofas and beds.

Our Foutas are all made by hand; small imperfections and differences in shape, size and color are part of the charm of a handmade product. This part of the handmade process is what makes our products unique and should not be seen as a fault. These differences will never affect the overall aesthetic of the product and its ability for use as intended.
DO YOU SELL OTHER SIZED FOUTAS?

HOW CAN I USE MY FOUTA?
How you use your Fouta depends on your unique lifestyle--that’s part of its beauty. A few ideas:
- The Fouta’s flat weave is great for caring for sensitive skin and hair after a bath.
- Practical near the water; lightweight, quick to dry, and perfect for changing under and lying on.
- A compact, pretty travel companion that makes a great wrap on the plane and comes in handy when the weather changes.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
We recommend hand washing your fouta to maintain its shape and prolong its life. Or you can machine wash cold without a spin cycle to avoid breaking the cotton fibers. Use mild, liquid laundry detergent. Do not use softener. Hang to dry. Washing in cold water is better for your Fouta and for the environment, reducing color fading while using less energy. Finish with a warm iron if desired.
