A NORTH AFRICAN ORIGINAL
Foutas (fu-tah) originated and are still used as hammam towels for men and women in Tunisia. They’re the north african household staple, an all-in-one shawl, pareo, beach and bath towel, blanket, tablecloth and bed spread. It's not uncommon to see foutas billowing from doorways in the summer months or draped across beds when guests arrive.
This migration from the hammam is no accident; after all, foutas adapt. They fold up effortlessly, dry quickly and are beautiful and useful seaside, bedside and everywhere in between.
Traditionally, a skilled artisan was behind each Fouta, setting up the loom, weaving by hand, knotting the tassels. That method of production is something we’re dedicated to preserving at a time when mass manufacturing, quick turnaround trends and fast fashion have pushed many artisans out of business.

The face of Tunisia is changing. Specialized knowledge (weaving techniques, loom setup) is at risk of being lost. We wanted to do something about this with handmade, high-quality foutas that would keep our home country’s artisan traditions alive.
