FOUTA (FU-TAH)

The Tunisian Fouta: a modern tradition

Fouta Harissa revives Tunisian craftsmanship in its most authentic form: the handmade fouta—now with a modern perspective and a Brazilian touch.

Each piece embodies the time-honored rhythm of handweaving, along with the freshness of a design that celebrates the sea, the sun, and movement. We produce small-batch, seasonal collections, respecting the natural pace of our artisans.

The fouta is designed to complement your lifestyle—whether at the beach, at home, or on your travel adventures.

The Fouta

Traditionally used in steam baths (hammams) in the Arab world, the fouta (fu-tah) has crossed borders and transformed into a versatile staple of Mediterranean life: an all-in-one towel, sarong, shawl, skirt, throw.

FH foutas combine beauty and functionality. Some are 100% cotton, others a blend of cotton and linen, all hand-woven in Tunisia, featuring bold designs and colors inspired by Brazil. Lightweight, easy to fold, and durable, they are ideal for everyday use, travel, the pool, or the beach. Give them a shake and the sand disappears, ready for your next destination.

Each fouta is born from the encounter between the loom and the artisan, through a process refined over more than 30 years. The fringe finishing is done by hand by women who carefully braid and tie each piece. The result is a lightweight, durable textile imbued with soul, a symbol of the collaboration between Tunisian tradition and Brazilian creativity.

Fouta Harissa is committed to preserving this art and ensuring ethical labor practices. Our artisan partners receive fair wages and stability, keeping alive a heritage that spans generations—amidst threads, olive trees, and stories.
