WILD OLIVE TREES

$150.00

Wild olive trees is olive green cotton yarn woven in an alternating plain and herringbone weave technique over a natural cotton warp. What appears to be stripes is an alternation between weaves, creating depth and texture.

Our deadstock combed cotton will take any task you give it and come back for more. Perfectly suited to the realities of beach days (dries in a flash, sloughs off sand like a pro and is light enough to pull sarong-duty), travels (blanket, wrap or scarf, it all depends on how you fold it) or anything in-between. This fouta will age beautifully and quickly become your favorite every-day essential.

About your Fouta

All of our foutas are handwoven using deadstock cotton and linen yarn that would otherwise end up in landfills. Upcycling natural fiber yarn is the first step in our sustainability and sourcing journey.

FAQ

FAQ

WHAT IS A FOUTA?

The Fouta is a piece of thin patterned cotton or linen fabric used in many Mediterranean countries, originally made in Tunisia. Traditionally woven using a pedal wooden loom, most Foutas found in the market today are industrially made.

Destined for a life without borders, FH Tunisian Foutas are equal parts devastatingly gorgeous and maximally functional for use in life’s most technically and stylistically demanding situations. As such, they’re skillfully handwoven from sustainable 100% cotton with patterns inspired by the smoldering spirit of Brazil. They fold up effortlessly, dry quickly, and are beautiful and useful seaside, poolside, and everywhere in between, like around our waists, in our carry-ons, and adorning our sofas and beds.

Learn more about the weaving process here.

Our Foutas are all made by hand; small imperfections and differences in shape, size and color are part of the charm of a handmade product. This part of the handmade process is what makes our products unique and should not be seen as a fault. These differences will never affect the overall aesthetic of the product and its ability for use as intended.

DO YOU SELL OTHER SIZED FOUTAS?

We offer the Signature Fouta which is the classic size, 2x1m (6.5x3.2ft), the Big Fouta, which is our larger size measuring 2.15 x 1.50m (7x5ft), perfect for couples, family picnics, and blankets for a cool summer evening. We offer the Mini Fouta,  We always experiment with new sizes so  be sure to sign up for our newsletter to receive the latest information on new product offerings.

HOW CAN I USE MY FOUTA?

How you use your Fouta depends on your unique lifestyle--that’s part of its beauty. A few ideas:

- The Fouta’s flat weave is great for caring for sensitive skin and hair after a bath.

- Practical near the water; lightweight, quick to dry, and perfect for changing under and lying on.

- A compact, pretty travel companion that makes a great wrap on the plane and comes in handy when the weather changes.

HOW DO I BEST CARE FOR MY HANDWOVEN PIECES?

We recommend washing your fouta by hand to maintain its shape and prolong its life. Or you can machine wash cold without a spin cycle to avoid breaking the cotton fibers. Use mild, liquid laundry detergent. Do not use softener. Hang to dry. Washing in cold water is better for your Fouta and for the environment, reducing color fading while using less energy.
